My first Furniture Projects

CONSOLE TABLE  Today I thought I would begin painting some furniture. I had a little table  out in the covered porch for a few months and since Michigan has been getting a few sunny days and one actually happened on my day off!  Imagine that.

This table was our first coffee station but I needed a more practical solution.  Although the table style is pretty common, the dimensions I needed were not.  It took me a few months to find it, actually.  The kitchen has sort of a pantry area with 2 long metal cabinets joined together with an upper cabinet.  This created a open space perfect for a small table.

In Michigan and a few surrounding states, we have a store called Meijer.   If you don’t have a Meijer in your area, it’s like a giant grocery/department store.  I went into Meijer thinking that I’ll just get a few groceries and ended up in the furniture section.  Well, that is where I found the table that fit the dimensions I needed.  It served us well for over a year but it was time to find something with doors so the search was on, again.

DRESSER/COFFEE STATION  One weekend, while shopping at a  local antique store, I found a small dresser that would make a better coffee station. It had doors, a drawer, shelves inside and bonus, the right dimensions!  Perfect!

This time, I thought I would get some advice before painting the dresser.  I went to a store in Holly called the Pigeon in the Parlour.  They suggested Annie Sloan Chalk Paint so I bought a small can.  This is a great shop. They sell many unique home decor items and a few clothing and accessory pieces.

The color chalk paint I chose was  “Old White” and I just used a brush I already had.  The first thing I did was wash down the whole thing.  I used water and white vinegar in a spray bottle and sprayed it on and wiped it off.    The dresser was dry after 20 minutes so I began painting.   The nice thing about “old white” is that it has great coverage.   I  love how it turned out.  This new coffee is both cute and functional.  Now everything is in one place.

I think I really like painting furniture!  Can’t wait to find more projects.
